DECEPTION
PASS DASH
December 7, 2019 | Deception Pass State Park : Oak Harbor, WA
The Deception Pass Dash paddle-race planning team has announced that there will not be a 2018 event. The all-volunteer team that organizes and runs the event is working to revitalize the race in 2019 in an effort to reach new racers and sponsors. Incentives for clubs, students, and returning racers will be offered.
Registration will open in early 2019 for the upcoming event, and new paddlers are always welcome! Volunteer positions also available.
The challenging 6+ mile race course takes paddlers through the swirling waters of Deception Pass (racers paddle under the iconic Deception Pass Bridge twice!) and the December race date adds an increased level of difficulty as racers face winter weather conditions. You don't need to be an expert paddler to participate - but we do ask that you prepare (practice paddling, rolling, rescues, etc) and make safe decisions about your paddling ability on the day of the race (based on actual conditions). Conditions in this coastal pass are dynamic and unpredictable, so all participants (age 16+) should be prepared, well rested, and on the top of their game! All racers should have significant paddling experience, proven self-rescue skills, and equipment that they are familiar with that is designed for use in extreme conditions.

OUR TEAM
The Deception Pass Dash started in 2006 under Seattle Raft and Kayak. Our family of paddlers at Outdoor Adventure Center has been outfitting this race since 2008. In November of 2008, due to the closure of Seattle Raft and Kayak, (one month before the event) Tim Leary was unable to continue running the Race and asked us to step in and take ownership. Our team worked hard in the short one month widow, inclusively reached out to Bill Walker to work with us, as he was one of the inceptual team members, and together with some other hardy NW paddle industry put on an exceptional Race in epic conditions. The Outdoor Adventures team has been running this challenging west coast tidal race ever since. We hope you Join us for this years Events!
